Sergeant 1238951 Norman Albert Young
Air Gunner in 90 Squadron of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
Died on the 26th July 1943 aged 20 years.
He died as an Air Gunner with Squadron 951, West Wickham, and his body recovered from the sea at Southwold. He is buried in Rothley Cemetery, Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley
The son of Jack (John) and Mabel Rebecca Young of Brookfield Farm, Rothley.
Named on the War Memorial, Rothley Parish Church Triptych Roll of Honour and Parish Church Book of Remembrance.
Sgt. Young was flying in a Stirling III EE904 WP-S on Operation Essen. The flight was presumed lost over the North Sea and three of the crew were washed up on east coast beaches including Sgt. Young at Southwold. FO Disbrowe was taken to Cambridge City Cemetery, FS Keeley RNZAF to Scottow Cemetery and Sgt. Young to Rothley Cemetery.
