1st/5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment

Killed in action on the 17th December 1917 in the France and Flanders Campaign aged 22 years

He is buried in the Cambrin Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France in Grave M.24.

Son of William John and Ada Worden of Anthony Street, Rothley and brother to Harry, Frank, Charles, Edith, Sidney, and Phyllis. Frederick joined his father to work in the quarry at Mountsorrel.

Named on the War Memorial, Parish Church Roll of Honour and Parish Church Triptych Roll of Honour.

The War Diary for the 17th December 1917 records:
TRENCHES CAMBRIN RIGHT. Snow from 3.am onwards until midday. Work still in progress in SAVILE ROW now in good condition and mostly cleared down the grids. Track cleared from L2 to L5 but no real cover here even from observation. Another successful daylight reconnaissance carried out by 2nd Lt W.M.COLE. Party of MONMOUTHSHIRE REGT worked for the last time on new trenches. During the afternoon the Commanding Officer taped out a fire trench from SAVILE ROW north to centre point in CARDIFF STREET. This was dug during the evening. Enemy quiet all day. At 10.30pm enemy suddenly opened with three heavy minenwerfers on left of D Coy post behind the front line. Immediate retaliation was delivered and received, about 15 rounds had fallen. These did no damage to anybody, or anything. Night quiet but very cold. New dug out, or rather old trench mortar emplacement suitable for Cy HQ discovered in BARTS ALLEY EAST.
