The Picture Album of 1917-1919

Fred found this album in his aunt's shed in Leicester when her house was being cleared. He rescued it from destruction as he could see the history in the old postcards. Many were Birthday postcards but there are lovely watercolour views of London with postmarks from 1917-1919. One sent from Windsor by Wilf Smith to his Mother at 28 Duffield Street, Leicester, gives a clue to who might have collected and sent the views of London. It is dated 2nd October 1918 and shown below.

Just a line from Windsor

Dear Mother
Just a P.C. in answer to yours. I should be glad if you will send my other watch as soon as you can it's in my tin box. They told me the same tale here so I thought I should get it done quicker with sending home. Well, I shan't come on Sat. One chap overstayed his weekend so its stopped it for a bit. So cheerio.
With love from Wilf.
I shall come as soon as I can.

Wilf sounds as though he is in the barracks at Windsor with no 36 or 48 hour pass!
