SITE 259 BOLTONS ORCHARD
There is no public access to this site.
Date: 3rd February 2007
We were walking through the fields of Westfield Farm next to this orchard when we saw someone making a bonfire. We went to have a chat to see what he could tell us about the site. There used to be allotments here owned by the Rothley Temple Estates but he did not know the origins of the orchard. Most of the fruit trees had died, especially the pears, and the site left to nature. He did not know if the orchard had a name but I see from my notes on Westfield Farm that Kathleen Hyman had called it Boltons Orchard so this is the name that I have used for the site.
I did take some photographs in 2002 from Site 106 Bowlers Field and it has got more overgrown since then.
There is Mistletoe growing on an apple tree, which the owner started off about ten years ago. It has made a good plant.
At present, this is a very good wildlife site.
