SITE 227 THORNEY WONG
Date: 5th November 2005
We were looking at this site as part of our project plotting the route of Thomas Babington's Carriageway (Site 222) from The Temple to the old A6. I took the opportunity on a nice day to photograph the trees before a return visit to measure them.
This is now an odd-shaped field with one boundary as the perimeter of the Rothley Park Golf Course, one fronting the Bridle Road and the other the boundary hedge with Site 224 Dyehouse Close. The top of this 'triangle' is where the carriageway swung left into Site 223 Short Browns Ward.
There is a good collection of oaks. One of which qualifies as Ancient Tree 541 but all have been recorded as they are of historic value lining the carriageway.

I went to the site and measured all the trees. There are 9 with one being Ash and the others all Oak. Although I took more photographs I used the one taken in November with their leaves still on.
