SITE 208 KINGFISHERS POOL, WESTFIELD LANE
Date: 12th June 2004
The reason for the visit was for Brian to check out the story that there was a millstone in the front garden that might be associated with the mill that he is searching for along the Rothley Brook. We called on the off chance that we could ask about and we were welcomed by Liz who was very pleased to show us around. Alas, no millstone. However we were able to look at the banks of the brook and Liz could remember when the house was built that there was a small type of wooden weir that was removed by Severn Trent as it stopped the water flow. Brian will be in contact with Severn Trent to see if they have the records for this.
Brian is also going to investigate the unearthing of Swithland slate tiles by the brook as Liz has informed him that some have been dug up whilst planting.
At the back of the house is a field that is being returned to a meadow after being used for horse grazing over the years. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
2011 It was very interesting how it developed as it became an award winning vineyard!
