SITE 191 HOMEFIELD (3), HOMEFIELD LANE
Date: 2nd June 2003
Access was not gained, as we do not know the owners name. This field has been for sale but not suitable for building as it contains boggy areas and is bordered by Rothley Brook. Thanks to this, it is a lovely buttercup meadow and, if access could be gained, there could be other interesting species to record.
12th August 2006
This piece of land is again on the market and for sale by auction on the 6th September 2006 unless previously sold. Sales particulars obtained.
Brain and I made a visit to look at the site.
The field had been mown so much easier to see the lumps and bumps and, after the very dry weather, it was possible to walk through the marshy area that makes an interesting curve from the side of the brook almost to the boundary with Homefield Lane. This would be a very interesting marshy plant area with Figwort and Soft Rush in good numbers.
Brian was interested in the ground undulations, especially in the 'curve' of the marshy ditch, as there appeared to be an area resembling a pond. No evidence of ridge and furrow.
We spoke to Lucy Pook who was in the next field but she had no further information about the sale or purchaser. She did ask about tree and hedge planting in her field, as the division is a strong fence with no habitat or interest. I said that I would contact Françoise Scrire at Charnwood Wildlife to see if she was available to do a survey and recommend a planting plan.
Brian lives directly opposite this field and is very interested to know who will buy it and its future use.
