SITE 186 HAY FLAT, COSSINGTON LANE
Date: 24th September 2003
There is a pond in this field that is the end of a small stream that connects up with the River Soar but its purpose is for the animals to drink. At the time of our visit there were two swans on the water. There is some good vegetation around the pond margins. This is Pond 19 in the survey.
The field is used for a hay meadow but, being cut, we were able to see interesting depressions in the ground and areas of damp. A public footpath runs down the boundary next to the bypass and in the corner of this field where you climb a style there is a good patch of damp meadow. This will be an area to check out in the summer for wetland plants.
