Rothley Listed Buildings

Historic England in 2016 is asking for the public's help to chronicle the history of buildings and places on The List (the National Heritage List for England). The List identifies the buildings, sites and landscapes which receive special protection, so they can be enjoyed by current and future generations. There are 400,000 of England's most valued historic places with 30,000 listed buildings and 1,700 other places on The List in the East Midlands.

WHAT IS THE LIST?

The List began in 1882 when the first powers of protection were established. From barrows and bunkers, palaces and pigsties, plague crosses and piers, tower blocks and tombstones, cathedrals, rollercoasters and windmills. Historic England curates The List for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE

This year, for the first time in history, we are inviting the public to join us in keeping The List rich, relevant and up to date. Please share your knowledge and pictures so that important facts can be recorded and secrets unlocked.

HOW YOU CAN HELP IN ROTHLEY

Please visit the Historic England website and search for Rothley. Please remember that there is also a Rothley in Northumberland and the two villages have not been separated on the listings pages:

ARE ROTHLEY'S LISTED BUILDINGS LOOKED AFTER?

The private houses look well cared for and form a lovely part of our village but some structures are suffering neglect so this could be your chance to take action. If you care about chapels, walls and bridges then Historic England is waiting to hear from you.

Full details on the Historic England website on how to get in touch. I am currently in correspondence with them to get Rothley Grange correctly listed as the farmhouse in West Cross Lane and not The Grange, Fowke Street. The Grange in Fowke Street is not a Listed Building but in a Conservation Area. Rothley Grange is now a private residence but previously a farmhouse now 'over the border' in West Cross Lane, Mountsorrel.

There are five buildings in Rothley not on The List but are of local interest. Please click on the following link:
