Rothley Baptist Church Pipe Organ and its History

SADLY, IN 2016 THIS PIECE OF HISTORY WAS DISMANTLED AND REMOVED WITH SOME OF THE PARTS TAKEN TO YORKSHIRE AND THE REMAINDER DESTROYED.

A VERY SAD END TO AN INSTRUMENT THAT HAS GIVEN SUCH PLEASURE OVER THE YEARS. MODERN LIFE HAS TO MAKE WAY FOR A DRUM KIT.

ITS HISTORY WILL REMAIN ON THIS WEBSITE AS WE MUST NEVER LOSE IT FROM OUR VILLAGE.

Researching the history of the pipe organ led to many interesting hours reading the old Minute Books for information only to find that the current pipe organ was not the first one to be installed. This short history therefore covers the time between the decision to change from a harmonium to an organ and ending up with the organ that we now see in 2009 when this research was done.

There were three organs in the period 1899 to 1937 and their history has been written here in the form of the entries taken from the No. 4 Minute Book of the General Baptist Church Rothley and Sileby A.D.1866.

These Minutes cover not just the purchase of the organs but the organists, fund raising, costs and blowing and all the decisions that have to made by a Church Committee.
