With thanks to Malcolm Hyman for the above family photograph. It was taken outside Linford Cottage (120 The Ridings) around 1916/7. Malcolm gives the following information:
Back row left to right, but subject to a couple of identities awaiting confirmation, are Arthur or Harry, John, Annie (Nance) and Edwin.
Seated left to right Edna, Harry (senior), Eric (standing) Mary Ann (Polly), Sarah (Doris) and George.
Front: Edith Nellie (standing in front of Harry) and seated on the floor is Arthur
Malcolm says that it looks to be taken in 1916/7 as Annie (Nance) married Charles Copson in 1917 and there are no rings on her left hand. Also, Edith Nellie was born in 1914 making her 2/3 years old. Harry wrote to John at the Front during 1917 telling him of his acquisition to the lease of Westfield Farm. John returned from the war and later married Edith Gertrude Cattell and lived in Linford Cottage.

On the left of the above picture is Maurice Edward Raynor who was born in Rothley in 1916 in one of the row of three thatched cottages at the bottom of Wellsic Lane. The cottages are shown below at the far end of the road where it turns from Town Green Street into Wellsic Lane.
Maurice loved motor cycles and was once the secretary of the Triumph Owners Club. In May 1962, accompanied by a colleague, he took a letter to the Opening Ceremony of Coventry Cathedral and presented it to the Lord Mayor of Coventry. They are shown above leaving Leicester Town Hall with the letter and their Triumph motorcycles ready for the journey.
Maurice lived in Hallfields Lane, Rothley from 1936 and will be remembered for his work as a self-employed watch and clock repairer, serving Rothley and the surrounding villages for over 40 years until his death in 1979. He was a member of the British Watch and Clock Makers Guild after starting his business as an amateur. He was once chief clock repairer to the Leicestershire County Council Lighting Department before a serious motor cycle accident in 1966 forced him to retire earlier than anticipated and, from this point, he worked from home.
Maurice lived in Rothley all his life and his ancestral links with the village date back to 1716.
With thanks to Kathleen Raynor, his daughter, for the photograph and information.
The row of three cottages where Maurice Edward Raynor was born is at the end of Town Green Street with Wellsic Lane turning in front of them to the right and shown in more detail in the second picture. These postcards would date from the time of Maurice's birth in 1916. The cottages were demolished in the 1950's but the Blue Bell Public House to the back of the cottages remains. (2013).
