MINUTES 2ND MARCH 1944

Mrs Becker gave us an interesting talk on her experiences in Egypt. She told us of an incident, which she said looking back seems very amusing. It happened very shortly after her arrival in Cairo, she was shown to her room but when she started to get into bed, the bed collapsed. feeling too tired to do any repairs she slept on the floor for the night. Next morning however when a native servant boy came to her room he ran away scared at the spectacle. She mentioned another interesting point at the end of her lecture. It was when she was invited to an Egyptian Wedding Feast. Yes, and what a feast, 24 courses. Something like pre-war.

P.S. My proposed short service & prayers at the end of each club started this week and was a thorough success.

MINUTES 9TH MARCH 1944

Another Parochial Church Council meeting was held this week and once more the President and myself attended.
I mentioned that if any member of the council would care to come and see the club at any time they were welcome to do so. I also tried to obtain some games equipment for the summer, so now we have to wait and see the results. I finally thanked the council as a whole for inviting us & told them how much we appreciated it.
During our absence the club went riotous and played "postman's knock". (How thrilling).

P.S. The prayers were held again this week in the Vicarage Chapel & were taken by the Vicar.

MINUTES 16TH MARCH 1944

Another "Discussion" was attempted but I'm afraid it was too sudden after the last one. Its failure was partly due, probably to the absence of a large number of the club, as they were holding a meeting, planning a programme for a future concert.
The remaining members talked, played ping-pong, darts and billiards and some also sang.
When the committee meeting ended we found that the concert prices were to be 2/6 reserved & 2/- unreserved.

MINUTES 23RD MARCH 1944

A minstrel practice and also a practice for the variety half of the show. This proved a success and I also realized something this week I ought to have realized long before that is we are real fools. The act that took better than any other was probably the Glover Brother's double turn. At this gathering it was decided that for every week now until the concert we would have a rehearsal for the show.

MINUTES 30TH MARCH 1944

This week the Third Election was held with the following results.

Mary, Tony and Bob did not stand for election as up to now they've been on both committees. Incidentally, Bernard and I were on the first committee.
After the "draw" had been made by Tony another rehearsal was held, with scripts, of course as only a few members know their parts. While the rehearsal was taking place a few members played billiards and the others, very kindly! sat, watched or listened.
Our weekly service was again held. This week it was conducted by Tony as the Vicar was at a meeting, may I say he did it very well!
