Minutes February 1945

MINUTES 1ST FEBRUARY 1945

A committee meeting took place at Bob's on Tuesday when Pat, June, Willie and I were present. We discussed the concert which is to be held in aid of the Bed Fund, near Easter.
This evening the proposals were put before the Club. Then "Widdecombe Fair" was rehearsed.
A game of "Murder" followed. Then "Rhubarb Charades"-a very amusing game-really just another form of the old parlour game "Charades".
This evening more members were present than usual. Cherry started typing the script for the play in the concert-"Two Gentlemen from Soho".
Geoff wrote a letter on behalf of the Club to Bernard who lost his father last Saturday.
The Vicar finished the evening by taking the service.

MINUTES 8TH FEBRUARY 1945

First of all, the cast of "Two Gentlemen from Soho" read through their parts in the hall. After completing five pages of the script, we decided to give it up as we thought that the audience at the Concert would not appreciate the dramatic powers of A.P.Herbert's poetry. We have not, as yet, finally decided what to do in its place.
Then the six "Somerset Yokels" rehearsed "Widdecombe Fair".
Winnie and David rehearsed their songs.
A game of "Winking" (always popular!) finished an enjoyable evening.
The service was, of course, held, as usual.

MINUTES 15TH FEBRUARY 1945

Most of the items in the concert were rehearsed. As yet no-one knows his or her part, but that will come gradually. It looks as though the concert will be a success-let's hope it is as great a success as the one we did last Easter. It is, by the way, going to be in aid of the Infirmary Bed Fund (Rothley section!).
The service was held as 8.30 to enable all Clubites to be present.
This was followed by a game of the ever-popular "winking"!!

MINUTES 22ND FEBRUARY 1945

Just about all the items in the concert were rehearsed (i.e. "read through"). Phil and I are doing a sketch about an insurance agent. David and June-one about a photographer. Willie and Bob-one about a rent-collector. Pat is reciting Rudyard Kipling's poem "If". David and Winnie are singing. David is playing the piano. Bob and Joan are singing. The other items were not rehearsed this evening except for the chorus who sang three songs including "Widdecombe Fair".
Bob took the prayers, after which we played "British Bulldogs" and "Kiss Chase" during which the Vicar came in at a rather inopportune moment!
