MINUTES 3RD FEBRUARY 1944

This Thursday we had a visit paid to us by Miss Woods. At the beginning of the lecture on music we thought that it was going to be rather dry as she played some nursery rhymes. but later we became more interested especially when one of the members began to disagree with her on the subject whether certain hymns were good or bad. (After the calming of the storm) she continued to play some of the classics, up shot the same member to disagree once more sticking up for the fact that some of the plain hymns were better than Beethoven, Bach or Chopin.

MINUTES 10TH FEBRUARY 1944

The members decided for a change that we would have a discussion on various questions that might crop up. The committee estimated and hoped that it would be a success. We all settled in a large circle around the fire but all must have been shy to shoot the first question. To counteract this the President wrote a number of subheadings on pieces of paper, split the members into groups and each group was asked to produce a question dealing with one of the subheadings. This worked marvellously, the Chairman had questions fired at her from all sides, & taking the questions in turn they were dealt with. Splendid results were obtained. The questions dealt with brought up all matters of subjects such as:-Russia Post War planning & Religion.

MINUTES 17TH FEBRUARY 1944

We had this week a much less interesting club meeting than the previous Thursday. The majority of the boys played billiards, a game that always fascinates without fail the males in the club. The remainder of the boys plus the girls chatted and played table-tennis and darts. other party games were played, the most amusing of which seemed to be "mixed tunes". At 9.15 which arrived quickly (or seemed to) the members went on their way home.

MINUTES 24TH FEBRUARY 1944

This week we were visited (by kind arrangement of Mr. Osbourne) by two American sergeants, paratroops from Quorn. We had hoped to receive a captain, but he was unable to come and instead we had the two mentioned above.
All members were thrilled at what they had to say and went home joyful. One of the members who lives at Birstall, and who missed the last bus home was thrilled, when the two friends from the States offered to run him home in their jeep.
