Royal Army Service Corps. (RASC)

The Royal Army Service Corps was a corps of the British Army and many older men joined this as a contribution to war service. The RASC was responsible for land, coastal and lake transport, air despatch, supply of food, water, fuel and domestic stores such as clothing, furniture and stationery. They did not have involvement in transport of ammunition, military and technical equipment, these were dealt with by the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. The RASC played a vital role in the Great War and many died on war service.

Private Lole died on the 26th January 1917 at the Connaught Hospital, Farnborough, Hampshire, aged 40 years. His death was due to Bronchitis, Emphysema and Cardiac Failure. His home address was given as Temple Cottages, Rothley.

He is buried in a Commonwealth War Grave in Rothley Cemetery, Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley.

Son of Simeon and Maria Lole, Bakers, of Rothley, brother to Albert Edward, Nellie M., Lizzie, Ernest and Walter Lole. Simeon was also buried in Rothley Cemetery on the 2nd April 1910 aged 56 years and Maria on the 9th July 1931 aged 78 years.
