John Willows Gift

Also recorded in Rothley Church is that John Willows gave 5 shillings a year to buy a Bible, to be given on Whitsunday to any boy who can read the first chapter of St. John's Gospel the most distinctly. The 5 shillings has always been considered a charge on certain estates in the parish, which became the property of Thomas Babington who supports a Sunday School at his own expense and annually gives up to six Bibles which is supposed to include the Bible of John Willow.
