Private 4860579 Richard Arthur Iliffe

6th Infantry Battalion Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, Duke of Albany's)

Killed in action in Italy on the 1st November 1943 aged 24 years.


Son of Arthur Kirkman and Ada Iliffe of Rothley.


Originally buried in a war cemetery at Cassino this had to be abandoned in 1944 due to fighting. Private Iliffe was re-buried in the Cassino Military Cemetery on the 25th April 1945 beside his comrades from the 6th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders. His grave inscription is 'YOUR CHARITABLE PRAYERS ARE REQUESTED FOR THE HAPPY REPOSE OF HIS SOUL. R.I.P.'

Named on the War Memorial, Parish Church Triptych Roll of Honour and Parish Church Book of Remembrance.
