Finding the Rothley Bronze Age Hoard
In 2009 Andy Chamberlain was using his metal detector, with the permission of the farmer, on land in Rothley and discovered a very important hoard consisting of a Late Bronze Age copper alloy axe mould in two parts, two Late Bronze Age socketed axes and one Middle Bronze Age palstave axe.
the two socketed axes and the mould were found in one hole and the third palstave axe was found in another about 1m away.
A report was made to H.M.Coroner for North Leicestershire by Ben Roberts, Curator of European Bronze Age, British Museum, Great Russell Street, London. The objects qualified as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act (1996) (Designation Order 2002)
