Elizabeth Daniels Charity

In her Will dated 12th July 1736 Elizabeth Daniels gave the sum of £30 to the churchwardens and overseers of the poor of Rothley which could either be used in the purchase of land or invested with income or interest paid to a school master to teach young girls to read.
It was agreed many years ago to place this money in the care of Thomas Babington who annually paid 30 shillings as interest to a school mistress towards her charge for instructing several Rothley girls in reading and needlework. Any cost over 30 shillings was paid by Thomas Babington. At one time there were 12 girls receiving instruction.

In 2007 the Charity held £186.

THIS CHARITY WAS COMBINED WITH THE BARTHOLOMEW HICKLING CHARITY AS THEY WERE BOTH FOR THE CHILDREN OF ROTHLEY.
In 2011 the combined funds amounted to £2,585. This is the total after four grants were distributed during the year for educational development of specific children.
