Cyril Sanders to Bob Perkins
CYRIL SANDERS
Cyril Sanders, after leaving school, worked in the horticultural trade. He later married Myra Bottrill, daughter of the landlord of the Blue Bell Public House in Town Green Street, Rothley.
NEVILLE WORDEN
Neville Worden was the son of the steward and stewardess of the Liberal Club, Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley, now the Rothley Centre. Upon leaving school he worked in the engineering trade.
ERIC BLAND
Eric Bland lived with his mother in a flat above Goodall's Wine Shop in Woodgate. This shop is now part of Templars Coffee Shop adjoining the Mercury News Shop.
DOUG BUNNEY
Doug Bunney lived in one of the high level terraced houses in North Street. Upon leaving the village school he worked in a factory, possibly shoes.
RAY CHAMBERLAIN
Ray Chamberlain lived at 11 Main Street, Rothley, now Town Green Street. After leaving the village school he worked in the hosiery trade.
JOHN SLEATH
John Sleath lived in one of the semi-detached houses at the top of Church Street, adjacent to the church lychgate. Upon leaving the village school he became apprenticed to Auster Aircraft, engineers in Thurmaston. He became very friendly with Tom Becher the vicar's son.
ROY MITCHELL
Roy Mitchell lived in one of the terraced houses just above the sports ground in Mountsorrel Lane. He also worked in the engineering trade after leaving the village school. Sadly, Roy died as a result of peritonitis following appendicitis when sixteen years old.
GRAYDON ILIFFE
Graydon Iliffe lived in one of the council houses in Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley. He later left the village and nothing is known further.
KEN BUNNEY
Ken Bunney lived in a terraced house in Main Street (now Town Green Street) Rothley and upon leaving the village school worked on the land and later ran his own business in what was then an orchard where the Council Field now is on Hallfields Lane (Bunney's Field). Here he built up a very interesting collection of old farm implements.
BOB PERKINS
Bob Perkins, son of the verger Percy Perkins shown in the second row, after leaving the village school was later called into the army. He was employed at the British United Shoe Machinery Co. then at the Melton Turn, Leicester. Bob died early in 2010.
