Private 42774 Herbert Antill

2nd Battalion Essex Regiment. Formerly Private 21363 Leicestershire Regiment, having been transferred on the 24th June 1917 from the 53rd Battalion, Rugeley Camp, to the 51st Graduated Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment, Clipstone Camp.

Died of wounds on the 25th April 1918 aged 18 years.

Private Antill was buried alongside others who died at the 54th Casualty Clearing Station at Aire in Grave Ref 11.F.14 in the Aire Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

Gravestone Inscription 'GOD BE WITH TILL WE MEET AGAIN'

Herbert was the son of William and Edith Emily Antill and born in Rothley in 1900. Brother to Mabel. The family lived on Mountsorrel Lane, Rothley before moving to Anthony Street, Rothley.

Named on the War Memorial, Rothley Parish Church Roll of Honour, Rothley Parish Church Triptych Roll of Honour.
