108 12 ACRE FIELD
ACCESSED FROM SWITHLAND LANE
Note:
There are two fields with the name 12 Acre so one is described as Twelve Acre. Site 108 is 12 Acre Field and is the one near to Swithland Lane. The piece shown in green on the map was used as a pony paddock by a Swithland Lane resident.
Date: 13th March 2002
This field has a Field Pond which is full of water but could dry out in the summer months. It will need to be recorded together with the trees so a further visit will be needed. It will be very overgrown with vegetation and hawthorn in late spring. This is a long, narrow pond and would be prone to drying out in the summer months.
A further visit was made on the 3rd April 2002 when the trees and pond were recorded as follows:
Tree 19 Ash Girth 3.0m. Not in a good state. Lots of King Alfred's Cakes. Lost its main trunk.
Tree 20 Oak Girth 3.7m
Tree 21 Oak Girth 3.8m
Tree 22 Oak Girth 4.1m
All recorded as Ancient Trees.
The pond is recorded as Field Pond 2. It is badly neglected but not now needed for its original purpose. It is surrounded by tall vegetation plus overhanging trees and hedgerow. It was full of water in April 2002 but dry when visited on the 14th September 2002.
On a return visit on the 3rd February 2007 it was noted that a piece of land had been acquired as a pony paddock. The pond was once again full of water.
Following the death of Kathleen Hyman in 2006 the farm will no longer remain in the Hyman family as tenant farmers. Further information awaited.
