106 BOWLERS FIELD
ACCESSED FROM THE RIDGEWAY AND THE SLANG SITE 103
Date: 25th March 2002
This is a field for winter wheat so good potential for field walking. This is a very stony field in a high point of Rothley so could be some good flints.
There are lovely boundary trees set into a good hedgerow between this field and Site 105 Six Acre Field. These have been recorded as Ancient Trees as they have a girth between 3-4 metres.
This is a lovely part of Rothley.
Ancient Trees recorded in Site 106 Bowlers Field:
Tree 13 Ash Girth 3.5m
Tree 14 Oak Girth 3.1m
Tree 15 Oak Girth 3.8m A lot of ivy.
Tree 16 Ash Girth 3.9m A lot of ivy
Tree 17 Ash Girth 3.7m. Fungi base of trunk.
Tree 18 Oak Girth 3.1m Large stones at the base of the trunk
The above trees were planted in a line of hedgerow between Sites 106 Bowlers Field and Site 105 Six Acre Field leading to Site 110 12 Acre Field. All trees recorded in March 2002.
Following the death of Kathleen Hyman in 2006 the farm will no longer remain in the Hyman family as tenant farmers. Further information awaited.
3rd February 2007
A return visit was made to the site but, apart from the crop, no changes were visible.
